- I am extremely disappointed and deeply saddened by these comments. As many have mentioned, yes, Southwest Airlines is a private airline, and yes they have the right to deny service for any reason. However, they should be prepared to deal with the publicity and/or potential lawsuits.

- I've had a child, and know that emotions run high on the trip to the hospital. That being said, there is a Spanish proverb that says, "Take what you want and pay for it, says God." The guy took what he wanted (a quick trip to the hospital), and now it's time to pay.

- I understand why he sped to the hospital, but he should be willing to pay the price (and ticket!) or he should have called 911 from home.

- After reading these comments and Ms. Jong's essay, I have to agree with the essay itself. I did feel pressure when I was pregnant and after I had my little girl.
